Founded by renowned Eye Surgeon and Philanthropist Dr. N. Prabhakar Rao MD AIIMS New Delhi, the Divine Eye Foundation was registered as a Public charitable Trust at Rajahmundry (Regd. No. 20/2004). Some of the initial activities of the Foundation included hundreds of visits to inaccessible tribal villages by Dr. Rao and like- minded colleagues to provide free eye care to uneducated peasants and poor villagers.

PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA NETRALAYA, a modern, four storeyed facility spread over 45,600 square feet, is affiliated to L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad which is recognized as a WHO Collaborating Centre. The Netralaya serves as a rural area partner for the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, which has earned accolades for providing innovative and affordable eye care to the poor throughout India. The Netralaya has established similar state of the art infrastructure utilizing L.V. Prasad‘s latest research facilities for prevention of blindness. Many of the successful treatment modalities, including the community ophthalmology network, pioneered at the L.V. P.E.I are employed at PYN. The global initiative sponsored by the United Nations ‘World Health Organization’ (WHO) to end preventable blindness, serves as an inspiration and blueprint for the Divine Eye Foundation.
