The teachings and practice of Pujya Guru Sri Paramahansa Yogananda have always been the source of inspiration in my life. That “Life should be chiefly service”, as ordained by my Guru, has been deeply ingrained in my psyche. This is the raison d’être for my value system from which emerged “The Divine Eye Foundation” in 2004. I thankfully remember all the fellow founder members and those that joined subsequently who strengthened my will and vision.

Having registered The Divine Eye Foundation as a Non-profitable Trust, we started conducting eye camps at hilly villages of northern Uttarakhand on annual basis for five years from 2004 - 2009 and performed free surgeries at the base hospital set up in Paramahansa Yogananda Ashram in Dwarahat, Almora and also in and around Rajahmundry and surrounding villages and tribal localities. With a view to serving the tribal, rural poor and needy population of Andhra Pradesh, Paramahansa Yogananda Netralaya was started in July 2007 in Vemagiri, near Rajahmundry with full-fledged Eye OPD and surgical services on charitable basis.

Over the years, Paramahansa Yogananda Netralaya has recorded steady improvement in terms of infrastructure and services. Let’s take a quick glance at the figures for the year 2023.

An impressive thirty thousand outpatients have been screened in the Screening Camps during 2023. The patient strength during 2023 as free outpatients has been 22,000 while those who underwent surgical procedures has been 4200. Patients have the facility of free spectacles and subsidized ones and also diagnostic tests on our premises.

For the fulfilling journey of these two decades, I am deeply beholden to my fellow members on the board of DEF, professional colleagues, staff who emotionally own the organization, philanthropists, and many like-minded friends and above all to the lakhs of patients serving whom has been my fortune and the Will of Pujya Guruji Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.
